Lip & Tongue Treatments at Diamond Smiles Dental

Laser Options

Soft tissue lasers make it possible to provide minimally invasive surgeries in a gentler manner that promotes faster healing and recovery. With dental lasers, we can avoid the need for conventional surgery and treat specific concerns with little to no local anaesthesia.

Depending on the specific needs of our patients, dental lasers allow us to address concerns at Diamond Smiles Dental such as:

  • Tongue-Ties: Tight tissue between the tongue and floor of the mouth can significantly restrict its movement. Tongue-ties can make it difficult for babies to nurse, bottle-feed or inhibit speech development in children. If the tissue is tight enough, it may even cause clefting in the tongue itself. While some types of tongue-tie treatments are more invasive and call for general anaesthesia, laser procedures are a fast solution for patients of all ages.
  • Lip-Ties (Tight Frenulums) — If the strip of skin between your lip and front two teeth is too tight, it can cause the gums to recede or interfere with normal speaking patterns. While many children with tight lip frenulums tear them at some point in childhood, others do not. We can quickly loosen the skin with a laser, rather than with surgical instruments.
  • Ulcers and Cold Sores — When you feel a cold sore popping up, contact us to book a quick laser treatment. Soft tissue lasers can reduce the length and severity of your ulcer and speed up recovery. The key is to treat it within the first 24-48 hours.
  • Gingivectomies and Gum Recontouring — Uneven gingiva and “gummy” smiles can pose an aesthetic challenge. Adjusting the margins of your gumlines can help your teeth look fuller and even, complementing other cosmetic services or as a stand-alone procedure.
